There’s almost nothing more exciting than snorkeling and exploring underwater worlds for ocean lovers. Top US Snorkeling Destinations

Wisconsin – Baileys Harbor

Lake Michigan has some beautiful spots to explore even though Wisconsin usually isn’t associated with snorkeling. Wisconsin’s finger sticks into the lake at Bailey’s Harbor, which is two hours north of Green Bay.A shipwreck snorkeling trip, as well as multiple diving trips, are offered by Lakeshore Adventures. Adventurers can explore several shipwrecks dating back to the 1800 son the snorkeling trip. There are hundreds of shipwrecks in the area local experts say.

Rhode Island – Block Island

From mainland Rhode Island Block Island is a 45-minute ferry ride south. Also called the “Bermuda of the north” and making it one of the top US snorkeling destinations in the northeast, (according to The Clymb), the water surrounding the island has abundant reefs. To ensure that the snorkelers have good visibility and see more than just sand, the reefs shelter fish and the continental shelf is short. Unbearable any other time of the year, even in the summer the water temperatures at Block Island are cold.

California -Santa Catalina Island

Roughly 26 miles off the coast of Long Beach, California is the Santa Catalina Island. According to dive shop Snorkeling Catalina the island offers some of the best snorkeling in the world. Guided, night or boat snorkeling tours can be taken with the dive shop by the visitors.

Near the island are Lover’s Cove and Casino Point marine preserves, which according to Catalina Scuba Luv are two popular snorkeling and diving locations. You’ll see abundant fish and beautiful underwater habitats in both locations.

Florida – Crystal River

About two hours west of Orlandolies Crystal River on Florida’s gulf coast. Swimming with manatees is the biggest attraction in Crystal River. During the winter season Crystal River is home to the world’s largest population of manatees. During the summer season,the population shrinks. A 3-hour manatee tour is offered by River Adventures. In their natural habitat, visitors can interact with the manatees, with the correct guidance. On the boat ride to and from the manatee spot birds, fish and other wildlife can be viewed.

Illinois – Kankakee

The Haigh Quarry in the town of Kankakee, about an hour and a half southwest of Chicago, Illinois is an unusual state to associate with snorkeling, but has hosted divers and snorkelers of all sorts. Having supplied stones for foundations and bases of highways in the 1960s, Haigh Quarry was a limestone mine. In the early 1970s stood it abandoned for several years since the quarry stopped being used. Some pumps the mining company had left were decided to be unplugged when Jim Haigh bought the land in 1978. The quarry was filled with spring-fed water within three years.
